ASMbly Talks & Events

Superposition Evening Event

Humans, Puppets and Robots: What’s the difference?

Wed 2nd August | Doors 6 PM | Free Entry | Bar

Join us for an evening of thought-provoking talks and discussion, as we look at the similarities between humans, puppets and robots, in the company of Professor Samit Chakrabarty, a neurobiologist at the University of Leeds; Anzir Boodoo, a puppeteer and co-founder of The Puppet Parliament; and Dr Raymond Holt, Deputy Director of the Institute of Design, Robotics and Optimisation.

We will be talking about how humans, puppets and robots deal with movement and dexterity, issues around decision making and disability, and just how difficult it is to define the boundaries between all three. It promises to be a lively and thought-provoking evening

Closing Event & Performance

Sat 5th August | Doors 7 PM | Free Entry | Bar

The festival culminates with a night of performance features Leon Trimble, Mr Wobblyhead and the remarkable Frozen Music Collective show us how your brain can make a live musical score.

The Copy without Original

A live audio visual experiment using brain scanning technology (EEG) to control graphical musical scores, which are projected onto an evolving screen created from the flow and form of a Butoh dancer.   These graphic scores become the musical notation for musicians to create an improvisational soundscape for the dancer to respond creating a reflexive human loop.
